DCMH Athlete of the Week: Melina Wilkison

Has made an immediate impact for the Hoosiers

(BLOOMINGTON, Ind.) – An Indiana University softball player has earned our DCMH Athlete of the Week honors!

Greensburg graduate Melina Wilkison is in her first year for the Hoosiers after playing at Ohio State.

In 2023, she led the Buckeyes in batting average, RBI, runs scored, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and stolen bases. She was named First Team All-Big Ten.

She also reached base in 39 consecutive games which was the second longest streak since 2013.

Wilkison suffered an injury in 2024 causing her to miss nearly the entire season for the Buckeyes.

She transferred to IU as a junior and has made a difference for the team in the first 13 games of the season.

The outfielder has 19 hits so far with a .442 batting average.

She had a big game against Iowa State on February 9 where she had two hits, including a home run along with a stolen base.

In her most recent game, she had two doubles against Texas Tech on Sunday.

Wilkison and the Hoosiers are currently 10-3 and will play in the Tiger Invitational at Clemson University this weekend.

Melina is also the sister of Greensburg senior Mylie Wilkison who will play for a basketball state championship this weekend.

Watch: Wilkison hits a homerun against Boise State on February 14:
