Dearborn Co. metal fab shop goes viral for unique device

Watch the viral video here:

(MOORES HILL, Ind.) – A Moores Hill metal fabrication shop has found themselves going viral unexpectedly!

South Dearborn grad Taylor Johnson owns Hogan Valley Fabrication and prides himself on being available for any sort of metal fab job.

A Bartholomew County barber had reached out to the business and showed Johnson a video of a mobile chair station.

The barber has bad knees and in order to continue working, he wanted to see if Johnson could design and build a similar contraption.

The mobile chair station was constructed and Taylor decided he would post a video of it on his company Facebook and Instagram pages on January 4.

Johnson wrote, “Here’s a video of our customer using his new overhead seat! To make it easier for him moving around his chair than standing on his feet all day."

He was in for a big surprise as the video began receiving more views and likes than anything else he has posted before.

As of Monday, the video has been viewed 1.5 million times on Facebook and 5 million times on Instagram.

It has also been spotlighted by The Koerner Office on TikTok and generated another 1.5 million views there.

The Hogan Valley Fabrication Facebook page has also seen an increase in Facebook followers from 1,400 to 7,200 in just over one week.

“It has been crazy, people from all over the country our emailing and asking me about pricing and wanting more information about the overhead seat,” Johnson said.

The sudden popularity comes as a blessing for Johnson and his family.

He had previously been working a full-time job on top of owning the fabrication shop.

During a family vacation this past summer, he had realized he was missing out on spending time with his two children and wife.

“I told my wife that I either need to stay in my full-time job or take a risk with the fabrication shop, because I can’t keep doing both as I am missing out on too much,” he recalled.

He took the leap of faith and went full-time with Hogan Valley Fab a few weeks later.

As for the barber in Columbus who is using the mobile chair station, Johnson says it appears it will make a long-term difference.

“He told me he used it one day for about 70 percent of the customers as he is still getting comfortable with it,  and said that made his life easier that day,” Johnson said.
