Donation drive for displaced residents of Greensburg apartment

Residents were evacuated on Thursday

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A donation drive is underway for the tenants of Sky Bird Manor in Greensburg as the residents are now allowed to return.

All of the residents were evacuated and displaced following a fire that started due to a gas leak on Thursday. The evacuation order was lifted on Saturday night.

The Washington Township Trustee has launched the donation drive to help the residents with unforeseen costs.

“The food in their refrigerator and freezer may have spoiled. We will help them clean it out, but then we need to replace food for them. This is an unforeseen cost to them.  Many are on limited incomes and any additional cost could be difficult. We do not want them to go without food,” said Washington Twp. Trustee Beverly Rivera.

Organizers are asking food and monetary donations to be dropped off starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 3.

The donations can be taken to the Agape Center at 906 W. Fourth Street or the Washington Township Trustee’s office at 1030 N. Lincoln Street, Suite 1400.

You can call (812)222-4273 or ( 812) 663-5501 to arrange the donation to be picked up, but they prefer it to be dropped off.
