Dr. Argo, Beacon donates golf cart to EC Athletics

This isn't the first time Dr. Argo has given back

(ST. LEON, Ind.) – Dr. David Argo has served as the Team Physician and Medical director for East Central Athletics since 2007.

He and his staff recently found out that the school was in need of an additional golf cart for East Central’s two full-time athletic trainers.

Getting around campus in an efficient manner is needed for the trainers who often work different athletic events simultaneously.

“There are days where we not only have high school events, but also middle school events that happen at the same time. At times, our two athletic trainers have had arm wrestling matches to figure out who drives the one and only golf cart we had,” said East Central Athletic Director Kevin Moore.

Dr. Argo and Beacon Orthopedics partnered with Quality Auto Mart & Service in Batesville to donate a brand new golf cart to the school on Wednesday.

It’s a gift that will not only make transportation easier for Athletic Trainers Kyler Hendricks and McKenna Lorton, but will also allow them to respond faster if an athlete gets injured on the field.

Fred Venis owns Quality Auto Mart & Service and says he was more than happy to help facilitate the cart for the donation.

“We’ve been around 35 years supporting the community and want to be around another 35 years doing exactly that, and this was an opportunity for a couple people to come together and to do something good for the area,” Venis said.

For Dr. Argo, it’s another opportunity to give back to a community that has had a profound impact on him.

“East Central is such a wonderful group of families and the process that people go through to be athletes and be part of the community, is just how I grew up in Tennessee,” he said.

“As a doctor, you want someone who is eager to get back to being on the field, court or their dancing routines, and you can see it in their eyes here that the students are eager to get back to it, and as a doctor that fires you up,” Dr. Argo added.

Beacon Orthopedics has invested in the school for nearly 20 years and Dr. Argo has led the effort that has also included donations to the equipment room, football team and has provided sports physicals.

They have also put an emphasis on educating the next generation of medical professionals.

East Central students get to attend Beacon’s cadaver lab in Cincinnati where they get an up-close view inside the surgery center.

“We’ve had several kids who participated go on to medical school and write letters and thank us,” he said.

Beacon has also held Career Days at the school where they’ve shown students the various careers associated with medicine, ranging from roles such as doctors, nurses, x-ray technicians and even marketing positions within healthcare.

Over the years, Dr. Argo has also worked extensively with Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn Schools.
