Local nonprofit relies on donations

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – There is a nonprofit volunteer group in Franklin County that is dedicated to helping local cancer patients.
FC CAN (Cancer Assistance Now) provides emotional support, access to local and national resources and financial assistance to Franklin County residents who are battling cancer.
They assist financially by providing $500 to each patient that can go toward transportation, groceries, utility bills, medications or any other needs.
“If they need their grass mowed, snow removal, or house cleaned we help with the everyday things like that as well,” said FC CAN Secretary/ Treasurer Kirshell Lovins.
The mission of the group is personal for Kirshell Lovins as she faced her own cancer battle 20 years ago.
“Nobody on our board is paid and every donation that is made says locally. Even though we have been in existence for a decade, there are a lot of people that don’t know we exist,” Lovins said.
They rely strictly on donations and could use assistance to continue their mission.
