Practiced how to save a person who falls through the ice
(MORRIS, Ind.) – Firefighters from multiple departments took advantage of the icy conditions at Bischoff Reservoir on Saturday.
The Morris Volunteer Fire Department hosted Ice Rescue training which included 28 firefighters from multiple departments.
Firefighters prepared for incidents that involve rescuing a person that has fallen through the ice, how to rescue themselves if they are the victim, and also practiced with the Ice Water Sled.
“This type of weather going from cold to thawing out, you never know when someone might fall through the ice,” Morris firefighter Randy Merkel said.
Some departments that were involved included Morris, Osgood, Madison and Lawrenceburg.
The training also included classroom study and testing and there were similar seminars hosted in Lawrenceburg and Sellersburg.
