Fundraiser launched for Milan horse farm after devastating fire overnight

Go Fund Me, Amazon Wishlist is listed below

(MILAN, Ind.) – Tragedy has struck a Milan nonprofit just days after being spotlighted on The 812.

The Impressive Dogwood Horse Ranch provides horse therapy to those with special needs. It also serves as a place to help young riders develop their skills.

Lightning struck the barn early Saturday morning and it was burnt to the ground within 15 minutes.

The fire claimed the lives of 6 horses and 1 dog that were inside the barn. A few were able to safely exit but are battling smoke inhalation. The Rising Sun Veterinary Office visited the farm Saturday to provide free medical care to the surviving horses, who are suffering smoke inhalation.

The nonprofit is owned by Ron Brandes, a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Army.

He operates the horse farm out of pure passion and it is a nonprofit that relies nearly completely on donations.

Brandes is assisted by Halie Wolpert who is the barn manager along with volunteers who are also members of Ripley Wranglers.

We have launched a temporary Go Fund Me and there is also an Amazon Wishlist.

A traditional Benefit account will be launched once banks are open this week. Any funds given to Go Fund Me will be transferred over once the bank account is established. Megan Wells is a family friend who will be overseeing the traditional fundraiser.

Here is the story that appeared this week on The 812 prior to the fire:
