(NAPOLEON, Ind.) – A fundraiser has been launched for a man that is well-known around the Napoleon area.
Doug Huffmeyer suffered a stroke in December and was completely bedridden with no use of his right side until recently, according to the fundraiser.
“He is now able to walk and do some things on his own. However, he cannot speak and continues to do speech therapy. He is practicing his writing to try to communicate better,” fundraiser organizers said.
Friends say that insurance has stopped covering expenses due to his health improving.
He has to pay out of pocket for rehabilitation and will eventually require 24/7 care when he returns home.
A Go Fund Me fundraiser has been created by Napoleon community members to assist Huffmeyer during this time of need.
“The Huffmeyer family is so thankful to the community for the support and prayers. Doug is a fighter and has been determined to do whatever he needs to do to get better,” the organizers added.
