(NEW ALBANY, Ind.) – The Greensburg Lady Pirates are headed to the IHSAA Class 3A State Championship!
The undefeated Pirates had their biggest test of the season against Roncalli in the Semi-State championship in New Albany Saturday night.
It was 16 to 16 at the end of the first quarter before the Lady Pirates marched to a 33-27 lead at halftime.
It was a physical game in the third quarter with a scary moment when Greensburg senior Emma McQueen went down with an injury. She was able to return to the game in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates were able to maintain a 53-46 lead as the fourth quarter began.
In the final quarter, Roncalli got the scoring started but that was answered with a nice shot by sophomore Claire Larrison.
Pirates senior Mylie Wilkison later hit two free throws before Larrison knocked down a 3-pointer to take a 12-point lead with less than five minutes in the game.
The Pirates were able to hold onto the lead behind key free throws from Mylie Wilkison, Emma McQueen, Leah West and Larrison.
The Pirates beat Roncalli 71-58 to advance to the IHSAA Class 3 State Championship.
The Pirates will face Norwell at 6 p.m. next Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
