(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A local certified financial planner is sharing some investment tips as markets plunged around the world this week.
The global market decline followed President Donald J. Trump’s tariff announcement and China’s response.
On Thursday, the S&P 500 Index fell 4.84% and on Friday the index fell another 5.97%, which is the worst posting since March of 2020.
The Dow Jones also plunged 2,034 points on Thursday and another 2,231 points on Friday.
Here locally, the private wealth advisory practice Messer, Rust & Burkert Advisors in Greensburg has been fielding dozens of phone calls from concerned investors.
Spencer Burkert is a Certified Financial Planner who is offering some tips to those who fear what will happen to their money.
“Investments can take discipline, patience, and an understanding that market and economic conditions move through good times and bad times,” Burkert said.
He says that a well-diversified investment strategy and taking a “longer-term” approach during periods of volatility can be a great way to navigate the current economic environment.
“Investors need to understand the risks associated with their investments. Also investors need to make sure that their investments are properly aligned toward personal financial goals, risk tolerance and time horizon of needing money.”
“Their concerns are certainly validated but I strongly recommend consulting a professional before making any significant investment decision,” Burkert told The 812.
