Monthly program recognizes student behavior

(CEDAR GROVE, Ind.) – Mount Carmel School recognizes students who display positive characteristics through the Vikings of Valor program.

Teachers pick one primary school student and one intermediate school student each month who show traits of honesty, work ethic, kindness, compassion and integrity.

The two students who are being recognized this month are Claire Roberts and Michael Schmidt.

Claire is described as a student who is always eager to learn and help anybody she can.

“She can be found giving kind words of encouragement when someone is struggling with something. Claire is a smart, honest and a valuable member of Mount Carmel School,” one teacher said.

Michael earned the award for being a true friend, helping classmates who are struggling with homework and being kind, patient and respectful.

“Michael is a perfect example of a student who shows strength, determination, and kindness. If someone were to drop something, he would be the first to pick it up. If you needed help with anything, he would be the first to offer his assistance,” a teacher said.

Another teacher added, “When things don't come easy to him, he works that much harder to make sure he figures it out.  He is the first to lend a hand or to share his knowledge when others are in need of extra support.”

Michael is not pictured in the story due to privacy reasons.
