New Trenton firefighter honored for 50 years of service

Was one of two firefighters recognized at their banquet

(NEW TRENTON, Ind.) – The New Trenton Volunteer Fire Department is recognizing one of their own for his years of commitment to the community.

Steve Clark joined the fire department in the 1970’s before he was even legally allowed to have a driver’s license.

“He’s told us stories about riding his bike to the fire station, picking up his turnout gear, and then biking to the scene of a fire,” said New Trenton Fire Chief Roger Angelo.

Clark is now celebrating a half-century of service with the New Trenton Fire Department.

Over the past 50 years, he has witnessed several things change in the fire service, such as technology.  However, his dedication to the community hasn’t changed at all.

“He really means a lot to the department, we lean on his experience and his knowledge whether on the scene of an incident or in a department meeting. We listen to what he has to say because he is so full of knowledge from the past 50 years” Angelo said.

Clark is also known for helping young firefighters with their training while teaching them to “do the job right.”

He responds to numerous calls and is also active in department meetings providing guidance and expertise.

Clark was recognized for his 50 years of service during the fire department’s banquet in West Harrison on Saturday night.

The department also honored Brian Roleson for more than 20 years of service as well.

Roleson has been an instrumental part of the department who has managed the agency's finances, fundraising events, presiding over meetings and serving as a mechanic on the fire trucks.
