Developer plans to remodel Sisters of St. Francis building
(OLDENBURG, Ind.) -- More than 100 Oldenburg residents attended a meeting regarding a senior housing project on Tuesday night.
The Sisters of St. Francis has entered into a purchase agreement with RDOOR Housing Corporation to turn Olivia Hall and Theresa Hall into senior housing.
The plan is to create 65 single-bedroom apartments with construction beginning this fall and leasing starting in late 2026.
Developers say these units will only be available for those 62 years and older and each tenant will be subjected to a background check.
RDOOR officials added that they would be mandated to keep the facility senior housing for 55 years.
Several Oldenburg residents voiced opposition during the meeting.
Some fear this will change the dynamics of the town, whether through crime rates, property taxes or changes to historic historic structures.
