Suspect was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – A Jennings County K-9 helped put a man in custody on Monday.
Deputies say they were following a vehicle in North Vernon when it suddenly stopped and attempted to pull off the roadway.
“The vehicle was still partially in the roadway, blocking traffic. As officers and deputies exited their patrol vehicles, a male subject exited the passenger side of the vehicle and began to run on foot,” the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office said.
Police say they recognized the suspect as Joshua Lucas and said he had felony warrants for Possession of Methamphetamine and Escape charges.
A deputy said he ordered him to stop running or that he would be apprehended by the K-9.
Lucas allegedly did not stop and K-9 Brock was deployed which led to a brief scuffle before Lucas was taken into custody.
He was rushed to the St. Vincent Jennings Emergency Room where he was treated for injuries, before being booked into the Jennings County Jail.
Jennings County deputies said Lucas was in possession of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia.
