Pres. Trump: Honda to build new auto plant in Indiana

It was mentioned during the joint session to Congress

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – President Donald Trump spoke about the possibility of more Honda production in Indiana on Tuesday night.

The remarks were delivered as President Trump addressed a joint session of Congress.

President Trump said, “Our auto industry is going to boom, it's going to boom. I spoke with the major [automakers] today, all three of them, the top people and they are so excited,”  President Trump said.

“With Honda just announcing a new plant in Indiana, one of the largest in the world,” he added.

The remarks followed a Reuters report Monday that claimed Honda initially planned to build the next Civic in Mexico, but has decided to move production to Indiana.

The report indicates that the move is due to possible tariffs on Mexico and Canada.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana is located in Greensburg, however, the local plant was never specifically mentioned in any article.

The Honda Civic has been made at the Greensburg plant since 2008, however the report alleged that the next-generation Civic was initially going to begin production in Mexico in 2027.

Following the report, a Honda spokesperson said the company has not made any announcement as of yet and declined to comment further.

They added, “We have the flexibility to produce products in each region based on customer needs and market conditions.”
