South Ripley sweeps Ripley County Tournament

Both boys and girls varsity beat Batesville to claim tournament trophies

(VERSAILLES, Ind.)-- The South Ripley Raiders are champions of the 101st Ripley County Basketball Tournament.

After last week’s snow storms, both tournaments were delayed several days prior to the championships being played at South Ripley on Tuesday night.

The first game of the night was the girls championship between the Raiders and Batesville.

The Lady Raiders were trailing at the beginning of the fourth quarter before they stormed back and won 46-44 on a last minute bucket.

This marked the second consecutive year the Lady Raiders have won the Ripley County Tournament.

On the boys side, the Raiders got off to a hot start against the Batesville Bulldogs and were leading 24-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs brought it to a 10-point deficit at halftime and at one point were trailing by only six points in the third quarter.

It was too big of a deficit to overcome as the Raiders held on to lead 63-51.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Cole Henry, Drew Volz and Blaine Ward. The Bulldogs were led by Cade Kaiser and James Hughes.
