(RUSHVILLE, Ind.) – A video captured in Rush County today serves as an example of what not to do when you approach high water.
A white truck was seen driving through a high water area in Rushville.
While the truck was able to make it through, there have already been several instances of water rescues in Southeast Indiana in the past 24 hours. There were two water rescues in Bartholomew County so far today as well.
“When you make a decision to drive through standing water, you are not only putting yourself at risk but also emergency personnel who would respond if you’re unable to make it out,” one EMA official told The 812.
Road Conditions Will Worsen Overnight:
If you’re traveling on county roads this evening, be aware that some areas that were fine during the daylight could be impassable this evening.
Chad Gutzwiller with Weather Wave is urging drivers to slow it down and be aware of possible standing water.
He also encouraged people to stay home if possible, but if you need to go out, try to stay on roads you’re familiar with.
More heavy rain is coming this evening as the creeks and rivers are expected to continue to rise.
Gutzwiller added, “I don’t think a lot of people realize that water levels can continue to increase even after it stops raining,”
